About

For Me
I am a Bulgarian photographer and artist who lived most of his life in Beijing. I first arrived as a cameraman for a project with China National Television — a project that was never realized. The crew went their separate ways, but I chose to stay in the Chinese capital.
My work exists between Eastern aesthetics and contemporary abstraction, between photography and painting, between the documentary and the expressive.
My method is almost archaeological — I discover images in crumbling walls, cracks, paint stains, traces left by rain, wind, and sun.
Testimonials
“Popov sees what others walk past. His images transform decay into beauty — a crumbling wall becomes a canvas, a rain stain becomes a brushstroke.”
Li Wei
Curator, 798 Art District, Beijing
“His work lives in a rare space — neither purely photographic nor painterly. It is something entirely its own, born from patience and a deeply archaeological eye.”
Irina Georgieva
Director, Sofia City Art Gallery
“Viktor Popov has found a visual language that bridges East and West — rooted in the textures of Beijing yet universal in its emotional resonance.”
